On April 10, 2023, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule that would update Medicare payment policies and rates for skilled nursing facilities under the Skilled Nursing Facility Prospective Payment System (SNF PPS) for fiscal year (FY) 2024. In addition, the rule includes proposals for the SNF Quality Reporting Program (QRP) and the SNF Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Program.

CMS is publishing this proposed rule consistent with the legal requirements to update Medicare payment policies for SNFs on an annual basis.

Updated policies for the SNF VBP Program are available in the FY 2024 SNF PPS Proposed Rule in the Federal Register at the following web address: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2023-04-10/pdf/2023-07137.pdf . Comments on this proposed rule are due by June 5, 2023. The SNF VBP Program information is contained on pages 21361–21399.
